INTO THE LIGHT is Tim Donahue's 5th solo album, coming on the heels of his 1997 release VOICES IN THE WIND, which featured legendary vocalist Paul Rodgers and production by Jimi Hendrix/Kiss producer Eddie Kramer.

This time, Donahue has created INTO THE LIGHT completely from the ground up, writing, producing, engineering and playing all instruments. Vocalist Kelly Hansen (of Hurricane / Unruly Child fame) collaborates with Donahue to come up with a unique blend of heavy metal / progressive rock, which makes INTO THE LIGHT a furious rocker from beginning to end. 

Exclusive to ALLRIGHTNOW.COM, Tim shares some intimate details behind the making of INTO THE LIGHT:

"People often ask what led me to create a heavy rock work such as INTO THE LIGHT. After doing VOICES IN THE WIND in 1997, it felt only natural to continue in a heavier, melodic rock direction. Until VOICES, I had recorded all kinds of work, mostly instrumental jazz played on fretless harp guitar, an instrument that I invented back in 1985.

But after VOICES' release, my development as a rock player took off, and a definite metamorphisis took place. In short, my playing progressed at lightning speed, and I was suddenly hearing and playing things I never did before. It's like I was making up for all the hard rock I missed in my "jazz" years. Working with Paul Rodgers on VOICES opened the floodgates... Thanks Paul!!!

INTO THE LIGHT started to come together at the same time as this drastic transformation. Hearing the album so clearly in my head, I realized I had to retain control over all aspects of its production. This meant doing everything myself- the songwriting, producing, playing and engineering. It took a phenomenally long time to complete, but in the end, ITL turned out just as I wanted.

INTO THE LIGHT is basically driven by go-nuts fretless guitar. There's no drummer on the album, as I used some great sounding samples. But for those interested, the drum samples were played on MIDI guitar- there are no programmed loops or patterns on the album. So because the drum parts were actually performed, INTO THE LIGHT retains a very "live" feel.

A lot of time was also spent on the lyrics, INTO THE LIGHT gets deep in a few places... I hope the lyrics speak to someone out there.

All in all, I'm extremely pleased with INTO THE LIGHT, and hope the fans enjoy it as much as I do!"
