Sven is working on a Bad Co Worldwide Singles
Discography (CD and vinyl) for the Mott The Hoople fanzine THE OUTSIDER.
"Most European countries issued colourful sleeves, as well as Israel and Thailand.
They look great! I have the Mk1 line-up pretty well covered (about 200 singles from around
the world - 50 with picture sleeves!), but I need more info about singles (and scan of
sleeves) from the Mk2 (Howe) and Mk3 (Hart) line-ups. - anybody who wants to help me out
can send me an e-mail. Working from Europe, I
especially would like to hear from people in the US and overseas countries. I also need
details of promo singles - again, especially from later years."

At long last some details of the upcoming bumper 5 cd box set of Free ...........
Recommended.
Finally the news you've been waiting for. We've now selected the material we'd like to
see on the Free box set, due for release in Oct/Nov. The set will hopefully feature 5CDs,
all 24 bit remastered from the original master tapes by Peter Mew at Abbey Road. The box
will come with a 60 page booklet which is being designed by Phil Smee. The set will
include a new essay by Phil Sutcliffe and a full 'sessionology' by some bloke called David
Clayton.
At the moment everything is looking good and sounding fantastic but remember this
listing only represents the initial PROPOSALS as the band have yet to hear much of what
we've picked. The material is a combination of unissued mixes/alternative masters and new
1999 Richard Digby Smith mixes. Some material on this set has actually never been mixed
before so it was necessary to have someone in to help. Diga, having worked with Free
throughout most of their career, was the obvious choice and has done a fantastic job.
Everything sounds great. The set as proposed here is 99% unreleased and features many new
tracks, also the new mixes almost exclusively feature alternative vocals, alternative or
extra guitar tracks and so forth.
The live material has been remixed and due to new advances in recording technology
we've been able to rescue material the band couldn't use for Free Live! due to electrical
crackles and various anomalies. The material for disc 5 encompasses all the related bands
and will likely be attached in a pouch. This will include unreleased material from Peace
and Toby. Sadly the Toby material was generally very 'unfinished' and it was unfair to
Andy to pick more than TRAVELLING MAN for inclusion. It should be noted that this is NOT
the version as featured on the German Free Story in 1974 but has an alternative intro and
is an unused mix. Hopefully we've made up for the lack of Toby with the three
Fraser/Miller tracks. Now feast those eyes folks.

The July 2 issue of the GOLDMINE paper
has BAD COMPANY as the Cover Story. The interview was written by KEN SHARP who also did
the story on Paul Rodgers which came out in Goldmine on 29 Oct 97. Look out for it.
"In a short span of six years, Bad Company--Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs, Simon Kirke
and Boz Burrell--blazed a groundbreaking trail in rock history with their devastatingly
simple yet immensely powerful music. Hits like "Can't Get Enough", "Feel
Like Makin' Love" and "Rock And Roll Fantasy" are cornerstones of classic
rock radio. Pooling their experience in such stalwart bands as Free, Mott The Hoople and
King Crimson, Bad Company paved the way for a succession of similarly sounding hard rock
bands including Foreigner, Journey and The Babys.
Having recently reformed for a U.S. tour in support of their new box set, The Original
Bad Company Anthology, their first in two decades, Goldmine sat down and did some
'straight shooting' with band members Paul Rodgers, Mick Ralphs and Boz Burrell."
Mick Ralphs is one of British rock's most tasteful and understated guitarists whose
"mission" statement is thought, feel & melody rather than speed. Take
This, originally released in 1984, is re-issued by Angel Air complete with previously

The Original Bad Company Anthology is now scheduled to be released on March

From the November/December 1998 Issue of Classic Rock.
The original line-up of Bad Company are reforming for an American tour next year, and
UK shows are also a possibility! Founded in 1973 by former Free vocalist Paul Rodgers,
drummer Simon Kirke, guitarist Mick Ralphs (ex-Mott The Hoople) and Boz Burrell (ex-King
Crimson), the quartet enjoyed enormous worldwide success, especially in America, before
splitting up in 1983, the year after Rodgers left the band. Since then, the group has
reformed with a variety of line-ups, but as Ralphs admits: "It was never quite the
same, so I packed it in three or four years ago and have been off the road ever
since."
Ralphs is currently working on a boxed set compilation of songs by the original
line-up, scheduled for release in the US in January 1999. A US tour is also being planned.
"We've been talking about it for a long time," reveals Ralphs, "but Simon's
on tour with Ringo Starr, Paul's in Canada and Boz is playing Jazz somewhere. It's been a
very long process to get it all together, but it's coming together slowly."
"It's not going to be one of those farewell tours that goes on for 20 years - it's
just going to be a one-off, because Paul wants to continue doing his own thing. But it
would be great to elevate the band and in America there's such a lot of interest. We get
played a heck of a lot on their classic Rock stations. And if the dates do well in
America, I'd like to do a British tour as well."
"There's a lot of bands from the '70s who are doing this - it's the thing to do, I
suppose - but there's a lot of interest in '70s music form the younger generation. It's
come full circle, from Techno Rock going back to Steve Miller and Earth Wind And Fire, and
we're in that era, so it should be good, as long as we get it together and do it quickly
before we all seize up with arthritis!"

Portfolio. Within the pages of The Rock & Roll Plateau's I will be featuring my
photographic work." The images on this page are copyright by Michel Zanet.

The Portsmouth-born rock singer was in his boat afer visiting business partner Vince

Wolanin helped relaunch the boat, but he also became trapped when another wave swept

swept in and released us from what seemed likely to be a watery tomb."
